Across the Pathways of Space ''(Par les Chemins de l'Espace)'' is a collection of short stories in the French comic book (or ''bande dessinée'') science fiction series Valérian and Laureline created by writer Pierre Christin and artist Jean-Claude Mézières. They first appeared in ''Super Pocket Pilote'', a quarterly, digest-sized offshoot of ''Pilote'' magazine, between 1969 and 1970. ==Outline== These seven short Valérian stories were unobtainable for many years. Initially published during the 1970s in ''Super Pocket Pilote'' in digest size, they constituted a sort of laboratory of ideas and forms where Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mézières tried out plots, created characters, invented flora and fauna and juggled with the paradoxes of space-time. ''Across the Pathways of Space'' combines humour and spontaneity, invention unleashed and rigorous logic, thus preceding much of what would become the saga of Valérian and Laureline, discoverers of distinction and voyagers of infinity. Unavailable for more than 15 years, these seven adventures were finally published together in 1997.
